GREAT OUTDOORS
Discover Arizona’s best highways. Historic Route 66, located on a variety of local and state routes, travels a length of over 300 miles. Main Street of America, or the Mother Road, helped shape Arizona’s future. Just think, without Route 66, most travelers might have missed the state completely. And Route 66 was just the beginning of our history with the automobile.
Today’s Valley freeways in Phoenix can sometimes be a city by themselves. Commuters, RV’s, motorcycles and the open road. Enjoy the beauty of our highway system. The new 303 is expected to carry 10,000 to 20,000 vehicles per day. It has 18 bridges and 12 million pounds of reinforced steel. The loop has 775,000 square yards of concrete pavement. And you thought that the 303 was a stepchild.
Back in 1985, Maricopa County approved Prop 300 to help fund the regional freeway system in the Phoenix area. Phoenix is the largest capitol city in the United States and the Valley’s freeway system allows you to travel on one of the most modern freeway systems in North America.
