SEDONA (The Movie) Released on Hulu and Hulu Plus

Sedona (The Movie), the delightful indie film starring Frances Fisher (Titanic), Seth Peterson (Burn Notice), Christopher Atkins (Blue Lagoon), Barry Corbin (Northern Exposure), Lin Shaye (Insidious), and Beth Grant (The Artist), is now available free on demand to viewers on Hulu.com and the Hulu Plus subscription service.

Dubbed the world’s very first “charming, inspirational, quirky, feel-good, magical, mystical adventure about finding miracles,” Sedona depicts the profound personal transformations of two stressed-out visitors over the course of one life-altering day in beautiful Sedona, AZ. After delighting a string of sold-out film festival audiences across the country in 2011, culminating with the prestigious Hollywood Film Festival, the film had a successful limited theatrical run in early 2012.

In the film, successful ad woman Tammy (Fisher) is driving from Portland to Phoenix to meet a big potential client when she’s run off the road by a small airplane making an emergency landing. At first infuriated by the eccentric locals, she gradually begins to suspect that she may have ended up in Sedona for a reason as she waits for an area mechanic to repair her car and faces her difficult past for the very first time. Meanwhile, amidst the towering red boulders, workaholic lawyer Scott (Peterson), his partner Eddie, and their two sons embark on a hiking trip that turns unexpectedly tense when seven-year-old Denny disappears into the sun-scorched landscape. As Scott searches frantically for his missing son, he realizes that his priorities have somehow gotten all mixed up and he begins to put his life into some much-needed perspective. With nightfall approaching, both Tammy and Scott find their skepticism about Sedona fading with the setting sun.

Hulu is an online TV service whose mission is to help people find and enjoy the world’s premium content when, where and how they want it. Viewers can watch Sedona free of charge whenever they want on Hulu.com, as well as Hulu Plus, which requires a subscription.

Sedona, AZ

Sedona is a city that sits on the county line between Coconino and Yavapai counties in the northern Verde Valley. Sedona’s main attraction is its stunning red sandstone formations…. the Red Rocks of Sedona. The formations appear to glow orange and red when illuminated by the rising or setting sun. The Red Rocks form a breathtaking backdrop for everything from spiritual pursuits to the hundreds of hiking and mountain biking trails. Sedona is named after Sedona Arabelle Miller Schnebly, the wife of Theodore Carlton Schnebly, the city’s first postmaster. This city is surrounded by red-rock monoliths named Coffeepot, Cathedral and Thunder Mountain. At the north end of the city is Oak Creek Canyon, a breathtaking chasm. You’ll also find world-class hotels, resorts, bed and breakfasts and a very good variety of dining.

Hike Bell Rock… one of Sedona’s

spiritual vortex centers.

The Rock is said to

energize and calm those

on its slopes. The bell-shaped

landmark rises 550 feet. It

is located on the northern

edge of the Village of

Oak Creek. It is just

West of Courthouse Butte.

Bell Rock is a butte —

composed of horizontally bedded

sedimentary rock.

It is a short climb.

You need to use your hands

to climb up the small

5-foot cliffs. You may need

to use your hands for

balance along the way. The

route to the right to the

top is easier.

Going up the 50-foot spire

is difficult, especially coming

down and you’ll need ropes

to finish the climb.

Like most of the red and

orange formations in Sedona,

Bell Rock is part of the

Schnebly Hill formation,

made up of sandstone

and limestone. It was

deposited at the bottom

of an island sea hundreds

of millions years ago.

Wind and water shaped

the rock over several

millions of years after

the sea receded. The

youngest rock on Bell

rock is Fort Apache

Limestone at the top…

272 millions years old.

It has several flat, wide

pathways which are

accessible from different

points off the highway. Great

for the casual stroller who

doesn’t want to hike up, but

wants a close look at the red

rock.

Cathedral Rock

This is a short, steep climb into the saddle points of Cathedral Rock. The towering side rocks keep the saddle points shaded and breezy; but the lower portion of the trail is bare red rock with total sun exposure -

Trailhead: From the 89A / 179 “Y” … take 179 south 3.4 miles;

turn right on Back O’ Beyond Road for 0.6 miles;

parking lot is on your left.

Length: 1.5 miles (up and back) Elevation change: 600 ft

Thi is a Steep Climb!
