Gabriel’s Angels

Our Mission is to deliver healing pet therapy to at-risk children, nurturing their emotional development and enhancing the quality of their lives forever.

Through the love of a Therapy Dog, children can discern tolerance, gain confidence and learn how to properly treat other living things. When at a visit, children have the opportunity to interact with a Therapy Dog team by listening to their heart, feeding them treats and brushing their teeth. They quickly begin to show signs of happiness; they’ll began to feel a sense of responsibility and what it’s like to feel needed and loved by someone. Once children learn empathy, compassion, and trust they are less likely to repeat the cycle of violence of which they were once victims. This positive reaction to the unconditional love of a pet has proven to be very powerful and effective and is the very foundation of Gabriel’s Angels. If you are interested in learning more about Gabriel’s Angels, the phone number is 602-266-0875 or click on the link to their website.

South Mountain Park

South Mountain Park and Preserve covers over 16,000 acres

It is often considered the largest municipal park in the country. There are more than 50 miles of trails for horseback riding, hiking and mountain biking. Dobbins Lookout is the highest point in the park accessible by trail at 2,330 feet. If you aren’t into hiking, biking or riding, you can simply drive to Dobbins Point to get a fantastic view of Phoenix.

North Mountain Park 10600 N. 7th St.

At 2,104 feet and 2.149 feet in elevation respectively, North Mountain and Shaw Butte are landmark Phoenix peaks. This area offers more than summit climbs; an array of trails of all levels of difficulty offers something for everybody.

Silent Sundays:

For each monthly Silent Sunday event, (generally the second Sunday of each month), the park’s main access roadways are closed to motor vehicles, reserving them for the entire day for non-motorized uses.

2012 –Silent Sunday dates in North Mountain Park are: 7/8, 8/12, 9/9, 10/14, 11/11, 12/9. For general information: (602) 262-7901 .

History

Around the turn of the century, the North Mountain area served as a campground for the Phoenix Indian School’s pupils and their families. There are a number of closed mining shafts and pits, evidence of the history of copper mining in Arizona.
