GLENDALE COMMUNITY BAND BRINGS MUSIC TO DOWNTOWN GLENDALE SUMMER EVENINGS

Glendale’s favorite summer tradition is back for its 47th season beginning June 6 in downtown Glendale.

The eight-week concert series takes place each Thursday at 8 p.m.

June 6 through July 25,

Murphy Park Amphitheater, located at 59th Avenue and Glenn Drive; with the exception of the holiday week in July, when the concert will be held Wednesday, July 3. Music lovers of all ages will be entertained by this community band of approximately 100 musicians with its renditions of marches, ballads and show tunes.

The Glendale Summer Band is the longest- running community band in Arizona. The ages of the volunteer band members span several generations. The band was formed in 1966, originally playing at O’Neil Park, and moving to Murphy Park when the amphitheater was built.

City of Glendale Xeriscape Botanical Garden

The award-winning Xeriscape Botanical Garden (at the Glendale Main Library, 5959 W. Brown St.) are nearly four acres in size with more than 400 species of plants. Many of the plants are labeled with common and botanical names. Considered one of the best demonstration gardens in the state, there are interesting plants for all to enjoy.

The garden is open to the public every day of the year. By walking the garden paths, you’ll see plants at their mature size, find examples of good plant combinations and discover ideas for your landscape. There is no cost to walk through the garden. Bring a note pad and pen to write down names of plants you would like in your yard.

A free self-guided audio wand tour is available for checkout inside the library during normal library hours.

A free, colorful booklet provides a brief history of the garden with select descriptions of plants found in the garden. Copies also are available at Glendale libraries

Glendale HIstoric District
The Glendale Historic District in the City of Glendale just west of Phoenix has more than 60 antique shops and a town square with shaded streets and sidewalks made for walking. Although the antique shop area, called Catlin Court, is the main draw for many people, the area also has many small locally owned restaurants serving German, Asian, Mexican, European, and American food. Many small coffee shops and charming boutique shops are there also.
