Katherine’s Landing
is a popular spot for boaters, fishermen, campers and rvers. Katherine’s Landing is located on the Arizona side of the Colorado River in the Lake Mead National Recreational Area upstream from the Davis Dam.
Katherine’s Landing gets its name from the old Katherine’s Mine that is located north east of the current Marina.
The Katherine’s Mine is decaying. There is only some concrete pillars, and the foundation of the once impressive structure. Strewn about are the rusting remains of iron tanks and other equipment used in the mining operation. Deep beneath the surface, a labyrinth of passages is filled with water, and rotten timbers. Katherine was a boomtown that gained more from its reputation than from the ore that it produced. The Katherine Mine produced less than $2 million in gold and silver between 1900 and 1940. The Mill, processing ore from area mines, excluding the Katherine Mine, produced $3.6 million in gold and silver between 1900 and 1943. Katherine’s Landing offers fishing for Rainbow Trout, Largemouth Bass, Striped Bass, crappie, sunfish, channel catfish andcarp.
