DRIVING TO CROWN KING IS AN ADVENTURE

BIKER MIKE IN CROWN KING

=====
Crown King….the now-living ghost town ….is located in the pine forest of the Bradshaw Mountains, in the Prescott National Forest. It is approximately two hours from Phoenix to the south, and Flagstaff to the north.

You can experience the beginnings of spring with an array of spring flowers. Follow this with a warm, sultry summer. A perfect escape from the heat and pressures of the big city. You can experience colorful leaves in autumn and view a winter wonderland.

There’s miles and miles of trails for hiking, biking, and off-roading.
Clean, fresh mountain air prevails. Enjoy blue skies by day with breaktaking mountain views and countless stars in the evening.

The site of a former gold mining town, Crown King is 28 miles west of Interstate 17 on Senator Highway, high in the Bradshaw Mountains. The community is named after the Crowned King mine, but the name was shortened to Crown King in 1888. Horsethief Basin Lake is southeast of Crown King on Crown King Rd/Forest 259 Rd.

An estimated US$2,000,000 in gold was taken from the Crowned King Mine alone; the mines have been closed since the 1950s.
